Smart dimmable window systems
Neways partnered with a global technology company to support the final development and industrialization of an advanced dimmable window technology platform. The system enables glass windows to dynamically adjust their light scattering and light transmissive properties through dedicated electronic control systems.
Within the project, Neways supported the development of the driver electronics and embedded software required to control the dimmable glass technology, including integration with building management systems through the KNX protocol.
Challenges
Dimmable window systems combine advanced material technologies with precise electronic control, requiring highly reliable driver electronics and stable signal generation to ensure consistent window performance.
The complete system consists of multiple integrated elements, including power supplies, controllers, window drivers and user interfaces that together control the dimming behavior of collections of smart windows. This requires seamless integration between embedded electronics, software and building automation systems.
To support commercialization and future scalability, the solution also needed to be prepared for series production while maintaining reliability over long operational lifetimes. Neways contributed through driver development, embedded software integration and preparation for accelerated lifetime testing using climate chamber validation methods.
