Neways and Novopress collaborate on next generation pipe pressing technology in handheld tools
Neways, a global provider of technologies for demanding applications, is working with Novopress as part of a project. Novopress is a globally established manufacturer of press technology and connection systems for the plumbing, HVAC, and industrial sectors. The project centers on the design and development of next-generation pipe pressing technology and series production for handheld devices.

Building on the successful production of the current generation of Novopress Pipe Joining and Shrinking Tool PCBAs, Neways is taking the next step in advancing the platform. Novopress has selected Neways to develop and industrialize its next-generation press and piping tool, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of the company’s industry-leading handheld pressing solutions.
The development phase began with a series of joint workshops in which Neways and Novopress collaboratively defined and refined the product requirements. This set the stage for an intensive co-development effort guided by ambitious timelines, strict cost targets and an uncompromising focus on functional safety.
“Novopress wanted to bring significant value-adding innovations to their hand-held tools,” says Paul Plettenberg, Program Manager at Neways. “Functional safety was a top priority, but they also envisioned features like integrated lighting, real-time visual feedback and a modular design to allow reusability. We brought both hardware and software capabilities to the table to make that vision a reality.”
Through an agile development approach, Neways ensured full control over planning and cost, ultimately delivering a highly modular and future-proof solution. The new architecture allows the press to be adapted or upgraded without redesigning the entire system—providing long-term flexibility and cost efficiency.
Representative samples developed by the Neways team were delivered on schedule and surpassed expectations, introducing several distinctive features:
- Bright press-point lighting for improved visibility in low-light environments
- Smart display offering intuitive, real-time feedback
- Service-free technology that minimizes downtime and enables proactive maintenance alerts
- Connectivity via Bluetooth to the app
The new device, officially named Novopress 32®, will be manufactured at Novopress. Neways will supply the corresponding electronic components, including the embedded software.
